Istanbul! Founded as Byzantium around 658 BC, the city took the name Constantinople when, around 330, Emperor Constantine transferred the capital of the Roman Empire there. On 28 March 1930, it was officially renamed Istanbul.<\/p>\n
Situated on the Bosphorus strait, which links the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara at the same time as separating Asia from Europe, Istanbul is known for famous buildings such as Saint Sophia, the Sultan Hamet mosque, the Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace and Leonardo da Vinci's bridge, as well as for the lively choreography of boats on the Bosphorus.<\/p>\n
