A virtuoso of unparalleled sensitivity, Nelson Goerner is renowned for the depth and elegance of his playing, which brings out every nuance and every breath in a score. For this concert, he offers a poetic journey – at times tumultuous – into the very heart of the piano. With Janáček’s *In the Mists*, he explores intimate and mysterious atmospheres, before revealing the tenderness of Schumann’s *Scenes from Childhood*, followed by the incandescent virtuosity of his *Toccata*.
After the interval, attention turns to Beethoven’s inventive grandeur in the Diabelli Variations, where rigour, humour and imagination come together in a fascinating musical whirlwind.
