Pilat takes its name from the Gascon “Pilot” which means “pile” or “mound”. So, when it comes to the dune, we must write PILAT. Pyla-sur-Mer is the seaside resort near the dune. Its founder Daniel Meller assigned it this spelling in 1920 in order to give it a more elegant and exotic sound.

- Know and respect the minimum fishing sizes, or “mesh”.
- Remember to sort your catches as you fish: re-bury shells that are too small.
