Film talk – Saint Pierre and Miquelon
«Terre de France in North America»
At the eastern tip of North America, buffeted by cold Atlantic winds and shrouded in ocean mist, the archipelago of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon remains a low-key, almost secret territory.
With this documentary, director Robert-Émile Canat and journalist Freddy Thomelin aim to show how France’s only territory in North America has, despite itself, become much more than a relic of colonial history.Today, it is, in fact, a French outpost in the North Atlantic, in the immediate vicinity of Canada, at the crossroads of maritime routes, climate issues and new international rivalries linked to the Arctic and Greenland.
