The mimosa is the emblematic tree of the Lège-Cap Ferret Peninsula . It is said that Léon Lesca, the builder of the Algerian villa and its chapel (still visible in the village of l'Herbe), acclimatized it to the Arcachon Bay at the end of the 19th century.
